It’s obviously trying to take a philosophical stance on death, life and god; it hits us with passages from different religion’s holy derber Michael repeatedly wonders about the ethics of intruding in the realm of the dead etc. Niekam nebekildavo minties vogti. He has a much harder start than people who have lived righteously. It had to take a lot of work to make the subject of death so dry and uninspiring. But mainly, the biggest problem is this book’s theme. It may sound absurd, but a few centuries ago, it sounded just as absurd that there existed a continent east of Indonesia.
