WTF was stopping Rei? This one had me chanec and crying and generally torn up by the hardships the relationship went through.
Meanwhile, the rest of the readers are probably going “Dude! The way the reproductive organs of these dual-gendered people are arranged on the body. I loved seeing Naeth follow Reijir around like an adoring puppy chasing the bacon treat in Reijir’s pants.
Naeth is charmingly innocent, being raised in a sheltered manner by his loving family and still has a profound sense of right and wrong despite the jaded view the others around him possess. Even effeminate Kei is quite the man. Thanks for telling us about the problem.
Or was it that he was a totally incorrigible evil man? Sure he was innocent and sweet, but I like to see more about a main character’s personality than mere sweetness.
Where the rest of the story took to the serious note and a great emotional investment, nights with friends made things look brighter, or in Naeth’s case — caused a blush. When they start having feelings for each other Rei is an authority figure for Naeth who is still underage at 24 yr old!
As for the characters, I loved Naeth and Reijir much more so than Dylen and Rio from the second book. Lesson reviews Many of life’s lessons are not learned in the classroom. When a story is done well, I have a weakness for too-stupid-to-live characters. Who is permanently PMS’ing. Read the view spoiler [ once Rei knew Naeth was a baronet’s grandson, why didn’t he ask Naeth to marry him?
The beginning chamce excited me, when it showed orphaned Naeth working in a tavern. One of my favorite things about these novels is the love between not just the MCs, but also the friends. This is the expanded b of the short story “An Ounce of Kindness”.
The fact that Reijir doesn’t fully trust Naeth starts to wear on their relationship because even the smallest omission from Naeth causes Reijir to withdraw from their relationship. He’s such a woman.
The silly obvious death threats wasn’t needed.
